Philadelphia, PA – PYO Music Institute is excited to announce the addition of two distinguished professionals to its board of trustees, Christine Weiser and Dr. Judi Hartzell, MD. Their appointment underscores the organization’s commitment to nurturing young musical talent and enriching the cultural vibrancy of the Philadelphia region.
Christine Weiser brings a wealth of experience to the board as the Content Director for Tech & Learning, the education division of Future PLC. Managing various facets of the brand, including the website, digital magazine, newsletters, and events, Weiser also plays a pivotal role in strategic planning, business development, personnel management, and more. Additionally, Weiser co-founded the esteemed literary magazine Philadelphia Stories, which marks its 20th anniversary in 2024.
Dr. Judi Hartzell, MD, is an experienced ophthalmologist who received her medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine and boasts over three decades of experience in the medical field. Her leadership roles as President & CEO of Avalon Medical Health & Wellness, LLC and Avalon Medical Solutions, LLC highlight her expertise in healthcare management and operations.
PYO Music Institute’s Board Chair, Robert Pick, expressed his enthusiasm about the new additions to the board, stating, “As we celebrate PYOMI’s momentous 85th Anniversary Season, the addition of Christine and Judi to our Board of Trustees couldn’t have come at a more perfect time. Their combined expertise in education and business will significantly bolster our efforts to create extraordinary musical opportunities for our students, helping to shape the next generation of musical leaders.”

The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Music Institute is the tri-state region’s premier youth orchestra organization for gifted, young, classical musicians, and one of the oldest and most highly regarded youth orchestra organizations in the United States. For 85 years, the PYO Music Institute has been providing professional-caliber musical experiences to young instrumentalists, while thrilling audiences in the Greater Philadelphia region and across the globe.
The organization now has eleven programs: Philadelphia Youth Orchestra (PYO), Philadelphia Young Artists Orchestra (PYAO), Young Musicians Debut Orchestra (YMDO), Bravo Brass, Prysm Strings – New Jersey, Prysm Strings – Main Line, Pizzicato Players, Philadelphia Youth Jazz Orchestra (PYJO), Philadelphia Youth Symphonic Band (PYSB), Philadelphia Youth Concert Band (PYCB), and Tune Up Philly – Orchestral Pathways Program. Ranging in age from 5 to 21 years, the musicians of the PYO Music Institute come from a 70-mile radius of Philadelphia encompassing nearly 20 counties within Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. Through advanced orchestra repertoire, students are challenged to perform at professional levels, to strive for advanced musicianship, and to achieve superior technical, musical, and personal application. Former PYOMI musicians currently hold chairs in most of the top 20 professional orchestras in the United States, with 10 PYO alumni currently serving in The Philadelphia Orchestra.
