Prysm Strings, formerly PRYSM (Philadelphia Region Youth String Music), is a string music education program created in 2007 to offer a unique introduction and preparation for string students to acquire and build skills. Prysm Prep (beginning), Prysm Strings Young Artists (intermediate), and Prysm Strings (advanced) provide string ensemble and instrumental sectional rehearsals hosted in the Parish House of Church of the Redeemer in Bryn Mawr. Graduates of Prysm Strings have matriculated successfully into other PYO Music Institute ensembles. Co-founded by the late William dePasquale, Co-Concertmaster of The Philadelphia Orchestra, Prysm Strings is directed by Co-founding Director, Gloria dePasquale, cellist Philadelphia Orchestra (1977-2022).

Prysm Strings offers:

  • Unparalleled instruction and performance opportunities for beginning – intermediate – advanced string students.
  • Maximum educational support from accomplished professional faculty working under the direction of the highly respected Philadelphia Orchestra cellist (1977-2022) Gloria dePasquale.
  • Weekly side-by-side rehearsals with faculty and PYO Music Institute string interns, which help build performance techniques and confidence.
  • Collaborative learning opportunities between students and faculty within the three program divisions  to build musical skills and strengthen community.
  • Winter and Spring performances in Church of the Redeemer, Bryn Mawr, in addition to performing in the PYO Music Institute Showcase, hosted at the Kimmel Cultural Campus, home of The Philadelphia Orchestra.
