800 Local Musicians Take Over the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts for PYO Music Institute’s 11th Annual Showcase Concert - PYO Music Institute

A Day-Long Music Marathon Fills Marian Anderson Hall and Commonwealth Plaza on March 15, 2026

On Sunday, March 15, 800 young musicians from the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Music Institute (PYOMI) will take over the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts for its 11th Annual Showcase Concert, a day-long celebration of extraordinary music-making, featuring student performers ages 5 through 21 from across the Greater Philadelphia region. 

Beginning at 1:00 p.m., audiences will experience all PYOMI ensembles across Marian Anderson Hall and Commonwealth Plaza. The Showcase Concert stands as one of the region’s largest youth classical music events of the season, featuring classical and jazz programming. 

“This is a remarkable day for our students and our community,” said Louis Scaglione, President and Music Director of the PYO Music Institute. “To see 800 young people take the stage at one of the nation’s premier performance venues is a powerful testament to the impact of music education on this region.”

The event showcases the full artistic spectrum of PYOMI’s programming, from first orchestral experiences to advanced pre-professional training, highlighting a comprehensive pathway for young musicians pursuing excellence. 

For 86 years, the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Music Institute has served as the tri-state region’s premier youth orchestra organization and one of the oldest and most respected programs of its kind in the United States. Today, its musicians travel from a 70-mile radius encompassing nearly 20 counties across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. PYOMI alumni hold chairs in most of the top 20 professional orchestras nationwide, including 10 alumni currently performing with The Philadelphia Orchestra. 

The Showcase Concert reflects PYOMI’s mission to use extraordinary music education to inspire character, discipline, commitment, and community through the pursuit of excellence.
