PYO Music Institute’s PRYSM (Philadelphia Region Youth String Music) and PRYSM-YA (PRYSM Young Artists) ensembles will showcase their talents at the 10th Annual PRYSM Festival Concert on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. It will be held in Centennial Hall at the Haverford School, located at 750 Lancaster Avenue in Haverford, PA.
The program for PRYSM will include: J.S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3; Selections from Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence; and “Hoedown” from Rodeo by Copland / Bulla. Together, PRYSM and PRYSM Young Artists will perform Bartók’s “Maruntel” from Romanian Folk Dances. PRYSM Young Artists will perform Overture to The Abduction from the Seraglio by Mozart / Hoffman, the Second Movement from Symphony No. 1 by Mahler / Dackow and the Theme from Havanaise by Saint-Saëns / Longfield.
PRYSM and PRYSM Young Artists ensembles provide string large ensemble and sectional master class instruction for beginning and intermediate musicians ages 6-14. The director and conductor of PRYSM is Gloria DePasquale, cellist with The Philadelphia Orchestra, and conductor of PRYSM Young Artists is Andrea Weber. PRYSM was created in 2007 to offer a unique introduction and preparation for string students to acquire and build skills. PRYSM and PRYSM Young Artists provide string ensemble and sectional master class instruction for intermediate and beginning students in and around the Main Line, with rehearsals hosted at Bryn Mawr College. Graduates of PRYSM have matriculated successfully into other PYO organization ensembles. It was co-founded by the late William dePasquale, Co-Concertmaster of The Philadelphia Orchestra and current Director, Gloria dePasquale.
Gloria dePasquale is very proud of the students’ accomplishments. She said, “The gifted and dedicated PRYSM students have risen to new heights of accomplishment this semester and are eager to showcase their musical work on May 13th.”
