For more than two decades, the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Music Institute’s Bravo Brass ensemble has been the region’s premier training ground for young brass musicians. Under the direction of Paul Bryan, Bravo Brass provides an unparalleled environment where students refine their skills, explore artistry, and perform alongside peers who share their passion for music.
This fall, Bravo Brass is taking its commitment to accessible, high-quality music education a step further, inviting the broader community to a series of public events designed to inspire, educate, and connect brass instrumentalists across the Philadelphia area.
These events spanning from October through December are open to all, from students and educators to local brass enthusiasts. Each session is crafted to nurture musicianship, deepen understanding, and celebrate the joy of collaborative music-making!

Monday, October 27, 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
An Evening with Mark Kellogg, Eastman School of Music
Mark Kellogg, Professor of Trombone at the prestigious Eastman School of Music, spends an evening with Bravo Brass. Professor Kellogg will lead an engaging session as performer, master class facilitator, and conductor.

College Admissions & Audition Preparation Workshop
Bravo Brass faculty members are current or past faculty members at Cairn University, The College of New Jersey, the Curtis Institute of Music, Drexel University, Immaculata University, Princeton University, Rowan University, Temple University, the University of the Arts, the University of Delaware, the University of Pennsylvania, West Chester University, and Widener University. In other words, they are specialists when it comes to helping high school-age brass players take the right steps to get into their desired colleges.
Join Bravo Brass for an informative evening focused on the college admissions process. interested high school seniors will have the opportunity to play through audition repertoire and receive feedback.

Bravo Brass faculty member Barry McCommon leads an open master class on a topic of supreme importance for all brass players and those that teach them – breathing.
