PYO Music Institute

What are the audition dates and deadlines?

The PYO organization typically hosts auditions for the upcoming season in both June and September.  There is no official deadline to submit an application, although submitting your request early will result in a more convenient audition time.

How do I apply?

Interested members are to complete the respective online application form to request an audition.

Which ensemble should I apply for?

Please review the descriptions, age guidelines, repertoire history, and audition requirements for each ensemble.  It is very helpful to consult with your private teacher in making a final decision.  If you are still uncertain, the audition committee will place you in an ensemble according to your ability presented at your audition.

Will I receive a confirmation of my audition appointment?

After registering online, the audition coordinator will contact you to confirm your appointment time via email. Please make a record of this notification, as it will be your only one. If you are unable to keep your appointment, promptly notify the PYO office.

Are their warm-up rooms available?

Yes.  One large communal warm-up room is available to all applicants.

Will I need an accompanist?

No. The repertoire that you select will be performed without accompaniment.

How long will the audition be?

A typical audition runs from 5-6 minutes in length.  The length of your audition bears no reflection on whether you may be accepted into the orchestras.  What music material the audition committee decides to hear from each student is at the committee's sole discretion.

What should I wear?

Dress as you would for a professional audition or job interview.

When will I hear if I have been accepted?

Students are notified of their acceptance within 1-2 weeks of auditions and receive a registration package via email.  If you have not heard from the PYO office after two weeks, please call the office.
